The CAPA CEF Internship Program is a unique opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of our democratic process by working directly in the office of an elected official or government departments and agencies in the East Bay and San Francisco areas.
Conference of Asian Pacific American Leadership
For the 17th year, the Conference on Asian Pacific American Leadership (CAPAL) will award two (2) scholarships and eight (8) internships summer 2009 to Asian Pacific American (APA) college and graduate students who CAPAL identifies as future civic, community or professional leaders.
Internship deadline: April 3, 2009

White House Internship Program
The White House Internship provides an opportunity to experience day-to-day life at the White House while working on a variety of tasks and projects. In addition to normal office duties, interns attend weekly lectures, volunteer at special events, participate in tours, and contribute to a community service project in the Washington, D.C. area. White House Internships are unpaid positions and participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and housing. Approximately 100 interns are chosen each spring, summer, and fall to participate in this highly competitive program. Submission deadline for the Summer Internship Program is March 22, 2009.
Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) Internship Program
This is a great opportunity to learn firsthand about national issues and policies that affect Asian Pacific Americans. The OCA Internship Program also exposes interns to other aspects of Washington, D.C. Last year, interns visited Congressional offices where they had an opportunity to meet with Congressional Representatives, APA staffers, and members of the Congressional APA Caucus. Interns will also have a lot of hands on experience at the offices in which they are placed. Deadlines: Postmarked by March 15 for Summer Session. Postmarked by July 15 for Fall Session
Citizens For Better Community (CBC) Summer Internship Program
This program offers local Chinese American Youth communication and leadership skill development, exposure to the legislative process (federal, state and local), practical work experience, opporunities to work with legislators to help our community, and a source of recommendation letters for future colleges and jobs. Deadline: March 13, 2009.
Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies
Each year, APAICS selects undergraduate students for a first-hand learning experience in American politics and policies through its Summer Internship Program. Interns work in congressional offices, federal agencies, or non-profit organizations in Washington, D.C. Last summer some of the interns were placed in the offices in the U.S. House of Representatives, U.S. Courts, U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and the International Trade Administration. Through a series of seminars, interns learn about national Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) advocacy organizations and network with peers from the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI). The CBCF, CHCI and APAICS are known as the Tri-Caucus Organizations. The APAICS Summer Internship Program encourages the political and civic involvement of young Asian Pacific Islander Americas, fosters their interest in careers in politics and public policy, and develops their leadership skills. Deadline: January 31, 2009.
