Any student in high school (currently a sophomore, junior, or senior) or in college who lives in the counties of Contra Costa, Alameda, or San Francisco, and is interested in this internship program is encouraged to apply.
Requirements
All Internship Program participants must participate in the following events:
Orientation - Sunday, April 29 and Sunday, May 20
All interns must participate in orientation and training. These sessions are designed to introduce interns to the workings of government and prepare for the workplace. In addition, interns will be given their presentation assignment (see below) and have the opportunity to begin brainstorming in a team environment.
100 working hours in the office placement*
- June through August
Working hours are typically flexible, and are scheduled with the intern's office placement. To get the most out of the program, working hours should be distributed over approximately 10 weeks during the course of the summer, rather than concentrated within 2-3 weeks. These hours must be completed by August 20, 2011. Timesheets must be submitted in order to receive a stipend.
20 community service hours* - June
through August
Community service hours can be completed with any community organization. Interns must submit completed hours, signed off by their supervisor. At least 5 hours must be allocated for CAPA and/or CAPA Community Education Fund. Timesheets must be submitted in order to receive a stipend.
Gala Presentation - Sunday, July 8 (prep meeting) and Saturday, August 18 (gala event day)
Each intern will also collaborate with fellow interns to make a presentation at our gala, held annually to support our programs, including the Internship Program. The presentation will be based on the gala's theme, determined by the Board of Directors. Venues can be made available for interns to meet and coordinate their presentation.
Fall Forum/Intern Graduation - Sunday, October 14 (tentative)
The Fall Forum is a popular program designed expose the community to candidates for elective office in a debate format and answer questions from the voters. Structured as a Q & A session, the debates fulfill our mandate to promote APA participation in public affairs. At this event, we will also present the graduating intern class.
