Newsletter February 2005
The new year has already brought with it a whirlwind of activity and exciting prospects. We welcome the election of three new members to the Board of Directors: Dr. Hugh Wang, Lena Tam, and John Chen. Also, Seechung Lee will be joining the Board of the Education Fund. At the same time, we bid farewell to Congressman Robert Matsui, a much beloved and devoted public servant who passed away earlier this year. We also extend our best wishes to another incredible policymaker, Oakland City Councilman Danny Wan, who resigned his council position to work for the Port of Oakland. We need to support the next generation of Asian American leaders who can follow in their footsteps. The coming year will be a tough one for our policymakers and our community. The state budget woes will be felt almost everywhere, but in a democracy we always have the opportunity to advocate for the services that are important to us. The Board voted to endorse two important parcel tax measures, Measure A for the Acalanes High School District and Measure B for the Walnut Creek School District. These measures are crucial for our children’s education. They are the future of this great state. Please take the time to read more about these measures and other important community events, including the application for our popular Student Internship Program. We also welcome your input, so please contact us or visit our website for more information on all our activities. I look forward to working with everyone in the coming year to take our organization and our community to new heights. Thank you for your continued support and involvement! Emily Chang |
