CAPA joins Asian American leaders blasting "Why I Hate Blacks" column

CAPA joins Asian American leaders across the Bay Area to express its disapproval of AsianWeek's decision to publish Kenneth Eng's article, "Why I Hate Blacks." AsianWeek is clearly responsbility for selecting this column to go to print despite its racist nature and counteraction to community-building efforts.

"I'm appalled and surprised that the editorial staff of AsianWeek let this through. Mr. Eng needs to be terminated and asked to leave AsianWeek. At the same time, AsianWeek needs to apologize for letting this through. We need more community, not divisiveness." - Cedric C. Cheng, CAPA Community Education Fund Chair

"I am appalled that AsianWeek would publish an article so racially provocative and hatefully racist. Asian organizations such as ours need to emphasize that this is not tolerable, responsible people's heads need to roll, and one person or even one publication does not speak for all or even most of us." - Dr. Hugh Wang, CAPA Community Education Fund Board Member.

"The biggest blunder appears to be committed by the editor of AsianWeek. The person should be fired. It is irresponsible to print articles like this that can incite racial tension. A responsible paper needs to offer solutions, not create problems. The paper should take extra steps to repair the damage if they want to remain credible and be a leader in the community." - Yuet Lee, CAPA Board Member
